This picture just made me smile all afternoon. It's Pope Benedict on his IPAD, sending out his first tweet on twitter. His twitter name is @news_va_en
I sent him an email suggesting that he follow me @revdebra and my organization @religiousinst for help staying up-to-date on sexuality issues. Goodness knows, the Vatican could use some help to bring them into the 21st century on sexuality broadly defined.
I hope the Pope gets some good lessons on coming up with 140 character tweets for us. Here's some of what I'd love to see him tweet as NEWS, but I'm not counting on it:
Sexuality is God's blessing.
Sexual and gender diversity is part of God's blessing.
We've made a mistake. Catholic couples, please use modern methods of contraception.
Family planning saves lives.
Follow your own conscience. Abortion is a moral decision only you can make.
Women, start applying to be Catholic priests. We need you.
The Catholic Church welcomes everyone.
I'm profoundly sorry to those the Church has hurt.
Jesus stood for full inclusion of the excluded of his day.
WWJD about lgbt people? Welcome them.

I could go on. I bet you have your own ideas. Let's hear them!

Debra ... why bother with the Pope's Twitter feed when you can follow this one:

"I'm profoundly sorry to those the Church has hurt."
Personally I would like to see UUA President Peter Morales say this to the numerous people that the Unitarian Universalist "church" has hurt in various ways including, but by no means limited to, victims of UU clergy misconduct of various kinds.
Didn't you yourself recommend that the UUA -
Have President (Morales) issue (a) broad-based statement and *apology* to victims of misconduct at GA 2010
and announce new procedures or task force.
in your 'Toward a Sexually Healthy
and Responsible Unitarian
Universalist Association' report?
I see no evidence whatsoever of UUA President Peter Morales making any such statement or apology at either the 2010 UUA GA or the 2011 UUA GA.
Apparently President Morales, to say nothing of the UUA more generally. . . just can't bring themselves to genuinely "stand on the side of love" for victims of UU clergy misconduct, or provide any real and tangible restorative justice for ALL victims of UU clergy misconduct victims.
Needless to say, I could go on too Rev. Haffner. . .
Typo correction:
Obviously I meant to say -
"or provide any real and tangible restorative justice for ALL victims of UU clergy misconduct."
rather than
"or provide any real and tangible restorative justice for ALL victims of UU clergy misconduct victims."
Coulda been something of a Freudian Slip though. . . ;-)
